Haritham Residence is a thoughtfully designed tropical home located in Calicut, Kerala—crafted as a seamless blend of nature, climate, and contemporary living. Set on an elevated 17-cent plot, the house sits between two generations of the same family, quietly bridging the past and present. At the heart of the design lies a lush central courtyard—an open, green space that brings in light, air, and a constant connection to nature. The home is carefully organized around this courtyard. A taller western mass provides shade and protection from the harsh sun, while the eastern side opens up to softer light and ventilation. The living, dining, and kitchen spaces flow effortlessly around this core, creating a sense of openness and continuity throughout the house. A central multi-functional space further connects the private and public zones, extending beyond the built form into the landscape—blurring the boundary between indoors and outdoors while enhancing thermal comfort. The material palette reflects a strong connection to context. Mild steel elements are used across windows, screens, and structural frameworks, paired with a sloping roof finished in double-layered terracotta tiles—bringing both climatic efficiency and a sense of nostalgia rooted in Kerala’s architectural language.
