Innovation Design of the Huangmaohai Link, China

Located in the core area of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Great Bay Area, the Huangmaohai Link serves as the western extension of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. The dominant works of the Huangmaohai Link consist of a three-towered cable-stayed bridge with a main spans of 2×720 meters, and a two-towered cable-stayed bridge with a main span of 700 meters. The main bridge features a design of "hyperbolic single-columned towers with split steel box girders," achieving a harmonious balance between strength and aesthetics. The project introduced vortex-induced vibration (VIV) control measures combining "wind fairing + vortex suppression plates + lower central stabilizer plates", achieving the goal of zero vortex-induced vibration. The project has achieved innovations in multi-towered cable-stayed bridge's structural systems, wind vibration control, industrialized construction, split-girder alignment control, smart construction technologies, and green construction practices.
