In 2003, I saw hope in Rhyu Si-min as he walked into the National Assembly wearing white pants. On June 26, 2026, Rhyu Si-min appeared on the 400th special episode of Kim Ou-joon's Das Beoida and referred to critics in the democratic and progressive camps as "criminal offenders" and "hired critics." It was a day when the politics of derogatory terms within the camp, which began with the ABC theory, once again turned language into a weapon. Is Rhyu Si-min a critic or a politician? I trace his 23-year political career back to the split of the Uri Party, the impeachment of Roh Moo-hyun, the controversy surrounding the confirmation hearing for the Minister of Health and Welfare, and his remarks about "two-shot men." Borrowing from Michels’ "Iron Law of Oligarchy," Eric Hoffer’s *The Blind Believers*, Hannah Arendt’s *On Power*, and Albert Hirschmann’s model of Defection, Protest, and Loyalty, we examine the path taken by the 386 generation activist establishment within South Korea’s ruling and massive party. Since I, too, once saw hope in Rhyu Si-min’s "white pants," this story is not directed solely at Rhyu Si-min as an individual, but is for all members of our society, including myself.
