These are the diseases that are suffocating democracy. Are we capable of reviving it and treating it with the tools of political reason alone? We find ourselves in the midst of a process that is difficult to decipher, and our interpretative categories, those of logic and even those of philosophy, no longer seem capable of showing us a way out toward recovery. Perhaps a visionary thought capable of transcending our usual interpretative categories and perhaps suggesting new intervention strategies could help us: a dimension of the imaginary that opens our lungs and allows us to breathe the future, perhaps even beyond utopia. TIZIANA BAGATELLA Actress of theater, film, radio, and television, and voice actress. She has worked with, among others, Albertazzi, Zeffirelli, Cavani, Fo, Bolognini, and Squarzina. With Gianni Guardigli, she wrote the comedy "A Song in Three Times" about the life of Edith Piaf and is the author of the play "Io guardo all'Orizzonte," dedicated to the philosopher Carlo Michelstaedter. She has appeared in numerous television dramas, including "Once Upon a Time in the City of Madmen," about the Basaglia experience in Gorizia, with Fabrizio Gifuni. GIACOMO MARRAMAO is Professor Emeritus at the University of Roma Tre, where he taught Theoretical Philosophy and Political Philosophy. He directs the Basso Foundation and is a member of the Collège International de Philosophie in Paris. Among his most recent books: with Castelvecchi "For a New Renaissance" (2020) and "On the Populist Syndrome" (2020); with Bollati Boringhieri "After the Leviathan. GIAN MARIO VILLALTA He edited for Mondadori the Writings on the Literature of Andrea Zanzotto (2001) and the Meridiano Poesie e prose scelte (with S. Dal Bianco, 1999), dedicated to the Venetian poet. He has written on poetry on numerous occasions, and published the volumes La costanza del vocative. Reading the "trilogia" by Andrea Zanzotto (Guerini e Associati, 1992); Il respiro e lo sguardo (Rizzoli, 2005), and La poesia, ancora? (Mimesis, 2021). His poetic work, from 1988 to 2022, is collected in the volume Poesie (Garzanti, 2025). Since 2002, he has been the artistic director of the pordenonelegge literary festival. NICOLA GASBARRO Anthropologist. He is the chair of the scientific committee of Vicino/Lontano and a member of the Terzani Prize jury. He focuses on issues related to historical-religious comparison and the anthropology of complexity. The author of numerous publications, he edited Mike Singleton's The Man Who (Will Not) Come (Forum 2013) for the Vicino/Lontano series.
