Trains For Fishguard - Speed To The West

This is the third instalment of my 'Trains For Fishguard' series. With the opening of the Swansea District Line being 100 years ago this month I believe, I felt now was a good time to try and launch a campaign to see it used more for passenger services. Taking advantage of the diversions while the Llanelli - Gowerton - Swansea line was closed to allow redoubling I collected a variety of shots of trains along the district line to illustrate the video. Also featured are Intercity 125s between London and Swansea, Carmarthen and Pembroke Dock. Fishguard gets a few mentions, but is not the main focus here. Unfortunately there was no opportunity to film a Great Western steam locomotive on the Swansea District Line, so I resorted to my shots of Nunny Castle at Fishguard and footage taken along the Llangollen railway. Since I took my shot of the Holyhead -- Cardiff express, the rolling stock has been sold and replaced with newer leased trains. I hope this will open a debate on the future of the Swansea District Line, there's a lot more I could say on the subject but that would have been too much to put in the video. 2018, bringing electrification and the end of the current Wales & Borders rail franchise, is an important time and probably when you'd want to start to implement 'long-term' options. Please discuss the future of the Swansea District Line here, on fishguardtrains.info, with your local Welsh Assembly Minister (if you live in Wales) and get this valuable line used.
