The Matsushima Park Festival, a music event held in Matsushima, one of Japan's three most scenic spots, began in 2015, following the closure of the Matsushima Aquarium, a symbol of the area for 88 years, and the full reopening of the JR Senseki Line after a disaster (restoration between Takajo and Yamoto). The festival inherits the name of the Matsushima Park Hotel, which was located in the Matsushima Coast Park Green Plaza from 1913 to 1969. Some venues offer views of Matsushima Bay and historical buildings, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenery of Matsushima while immersing themselves in music. Special programs and parades are also held.
