Special Thanks to Rosario Catania :D Sicilian is a member of the Italo-Romance language family and is considered one of the oldest Romance languages. Spoken by nearly 5 million people in Sicily, an autonomous island within Italy, it has a rich history influenced by Latin, Greek, Norman, French, Occitan, Spanish, Catalan, Germanic languages, and Arabic. Variants of Sicilian are spoken in Southern Calabria, Apulia, and even among Sicilian communities in the US, known as "Siculish." Efforts by the Sicilian Parliament and Cademia Siciliana aim to standardize its written form.
