Backing Horses with The Frame ** Session Five

Every young horse develops a little differently—and Session 5 is often where those individual personalities really start to shine. In this episode of Backing Horses with The Frame, Joe works through the fifth backing session with a young mare, continuing to build confidence both on the ground and under saddle. As always, the session begins by rechecking the previous day's work before progressing through the next steps in her education. During this session, you'll see Joe: Recheck groundwork in the round pen. Continue the horse's education in the small arena. Mount in the stall before riding in the arena. Discuss how he evaluates each ride and decides what comes next. Finish the session by cooling the horse down in the wash stall. One of the biggest takeaways from this session is watching a trainer problem-solve in real time. When the mare begins showing signs that she's uncomfortable with her current bit, Joe doesn't simply push through it. Instead, he explains his thought process, considers why she's reacting the way she is, and talks through the adjustments he'll make during the next session.
