Even in the spring rain, these double stone arches are breathtaking, standing as a gateway to the upper valley. Following the river deeper into the mist, we reach Sonogno, a beautiful stone village in the Canton of Ticino located at the very end of the Verzasca Valley. It is known for its traditional stone houses, narrow lanes, and peaceful alpine atmosphere. Sonogno is also home to the Museo Val Verzasca, where the village still preserves many local traditions today. Not far away, Sonlerto in the Bavona Valley offers a similarly timeless feeling. It is one of the old stone hamlets of the valley, built compactly among large boulders and surrounded by steep rock walls, chestnut forests, and a wild alpine landscape.
