Also, check us out at: https://thehonestcarpenter.com/ Tools: Utility Knife (Stanley) Brad Nailer (Rigid) Sandpaper Table Saw (Dewalt) OPTIONAL Caulking Gun Materials: Scrap Wood Wood Filler (Plastic Wood) Caulk Wood Glue (Titebond 2) Brad Nails Paint How-To: 1) Cut test pieces by either sanding down paint stirrers, or ripping down scrap lumber to a custom thickness. 2) When thickness is determined, cut custom filler pieces to fit hinge mortises. 3) If mortises have rounded corners, cut "dog ears" on the corners of your filler pieces. 3) Glue filler pieces into place, being sure to keep front edge aligned with front of jamb (flush). 4) Consider shooting pieces into place with a few short brad nails (5/8") 5) Fill gaps around pieces with "Plastic Wood" wood filler. Allow approx. 15 minutes to dry. 6) Sand down wood filler with 120 or 180 grit sandpaper. 7) Caulk seam between new pieces and jamb. Tool caulk to blend in with the rest of the seam. Let caulk dry. 8) Add one coat of paint or primer, or paint-plus-primer. This will help reveal imperfections. 9) Consider repeating steps until hinge slots completely disappear.
