Supergirl and the Issue of Trauma
In just a few short weeks the newest installment in James Gunn's DCU is set to release, Supergirl. The movie arrives amidst a barrage of criticism after key star Milly Alcock's comments and trouble box office projections But what's becoming increasingly obvious about the film is its focus on trauma and the reactions to it like so many other superhero properties have done in the last half decade. And I'm just going to come out and say it: trauma doesn't make good characters. And it looks as if the new Supergirl movie is going to another example of why that is. Join me as we discuss the Supergirl movie and various other examples of why building characters on trauma never makes for a good story.
