National Family History Month (NFHM): Dr G.F. Huston, Superintendent of the New Norfolk Asylum & the "Kenny Affair" with Kate Vermey Part of the National Family History Month Program In 1879, George Francis Huston, respected Surgeon and Superintendent of the New Norfolk Insane Asylum was embroiled in a scandal, when he was charged with the criminal sexual assault of Mrs Gertrude Kenny, his matron. It became known as the "Kenny Affair". So who was G.F Huston? This talk will explore the life of G.F Huston, his family and the Commission of enquiry surrounding the Kenny Affair. Kate Vermey is a member of the State Library and Archives team, working out of The Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts. Her previous talks have revolved around the life of Curzon Allport and his relationships with the Allport family, and can be found on the Libraries Tasmania Soundcloud page.
