Brug Saramacca - Vijfde Rijweg - Monument van de Boeroes Groningen

The Saramacca is a river in Suriname that flows through the districts of Sipaliwini, Para, and Saramacca. The river originates in the Wilhelmina Mountains, flows north, and subsequently empties into the Atlantic Ocean, together with the Coppename River. The river has a drainage basin of 9,400 km² and is 255 km long. It is an important waterway for local freight and passenger transport to the agricultural areas. However, this transport is hampered by the various sandbanks in the estuary. The Vijfde Rijweg is a well-known road located in the Wanica district of Suriname, in the vicinity of Kwatta and close to the Noordpolderdam. It is a residential and agricultural connecting road that forms part of the road network near the capital, Paramaribo. The Monument of the Boeroes stands on Monument Square in Groningen, Suriname. The Boer colonization of Suriname from the Netherlands began in 1845.The colonists became known as Boeroes. The Monument of the Boeroes was erected during the celebration of 100 years of Boer colonization in 1945.
