Before the translation today there remained some discussion yesterday regarding the word لَهْوٌ ['pastime']. In any case I believe it is correct to take لَهْوٌ to mean one's carnal lusts that are described in English as 'playful'. This word is also used for illicit relationships. The Lisān al-Arab [by Muhammad Ibn Manẓūr, 1290] also writes 'The fulfillment of playful sexual urges'. So such pastimes which restrict one from Divine commemoration, divert one's attention from important and relatively better tasks, this is also included in لَهْوٌ. For example if children ignore their education and occupy their time in Cricket and watching Dramas their so doing would be deemed as indulgence in لَهْوٌ. 29. O ye of faith! Be mindful of Allah and believe in His Messenger for He shall give you doubly of His mercy and will furnish you with a light wherein you shall walk and shall grant you forgiveness - For verily Allah is Most Forgiving, Merciful - The righteous are advised to be conscious of Almighty God and promised an added reward and increase in their illumination in consequence of their believing in the Holy Prophet. 8. Knowest thou not that Allah has knowledge all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth? There is no secret conference of three but He is their fourth nor of five but He is their sixth nor of less than that nor of more but He is with them wheresoever they may be. Then on the Day of Resurrection He shall inform them of what they did. Verily Allah knows all things full well. An important clarification is made regarding the Social habit of secret consultations. Any consultations held secretly are sinful, treacherous and transgression to the Prophet is Satanic.
