Antique Lighter Restoration with 1842 Coin – Found Under the Floor!
In this video, I restore a rare lighter from the late 19th century, discovered by a friend of mine who’s a metal detectorist. He found it beneath the floorboards of a partially ruined mansion somewhere in Eastern Europe. Judging by the heavy patina, it must have been lying there for a very long time. This isn’t a typical pocket lighter — it’s a household one, used like a candle back in the days before electricity. One fascinating detail is the base: it’s made from a Russian Empire coin dated 1842. That coin went out of circulation around 1867, and I believe it was around then that it was repurposed into part of this lighter. The goal of this restoration was to bring it back to working condition, while preserving the spirit of its era. After restoring the mechanism, I carefully aged it so it would look like it had just come out of daily use from the 19th century. I did my best to ensure high quality — this lighter will be displayed in a small private museum. I hope you enjoy the project.
