Choosing a university after high school can feel confusing, especially when that decision may shape the next four or five years of your life—and possibly your future career. In this video, I share my own education journey, from studying an International Diploma in Computer Studies and dreaming of becoming a software engineer in Singapore, to eventually choosing Maritime University and graduating in Marine Engineering. Looking back, I realized how difficult it can be for students and parents to choose the right academic pathway without enough information, guidance, or understanding of what truly matches the student’s interests, abilities, budget, and long-term goals. That is why I visited the Canadian International Center, also known as CIC, to learn more about preparing for international education and applying to universities abroad. In this video, we discuss: • Where students should begin when planning to study overseas • How to choose the right country, university, and major • What the OSSD programme is and how it works • Who can study the OSSD programme • The differences between OSSD, GED, IGCSE, A Levels, and Foundation programmes • How CIC supports students with university preparation and applications • Academic results, English requirements, extracurricular activities, personal statements, and recommendation letters • Possible tuition fees, living expenses, visa costs, and other study-abroad expenses • Common challenges faced by Myanmar students studying overseas • What students should realistically expect when applying to competitive universities I also spoke with a CIC student about why they chose the OSSD pathway, the challenges they experienced, and their future university plans. A high-ranking university is not automatically the best choice for everyone. Students should carefully consider their interests, academic strengths, career goals, family budget, and preferred study environment before making such an important decision. I hope this video helps students and parents better understand how to begin preparing for international education from Myanmar.
