Henry Poole's Finish Bar Finish — How a Bespoke Jacket Becomes Perfect | Savile Row

Every bespoke commission ends at the same threshold: the moment the garment is finished in all but the final details, tried on one last time, and approved for completion. At Henry Poole, they call it the finish bar finish. It is the gateway between a suit in progress and a suit that is ready to live. In this video, I return to Henry Poole on Savile Row for the final fitting of my bespoke commission — a smoking jacket cut from a The Lonsdale Check, paired with needle-cord trousers. Working with Henry Poole cutter Tristan, we make the last adjustments: waist suppression, a gorge cut to accommodate my hollow back, a wedge correction in the left sleeve. The lapels are padded and rolled. The canvas is set. All that remains is the lining, the buttonholes, and the edge stitching. The garment is, in every meaningful sense, already there. What I find most remarkable about a house like Henry Poole is the precision of this final stage — the way small measurements (a quarter-inch here, a wedge there) resolve into a garment that looks entirely inevitable.
