Thierry Baudet is one of the people behind the citizens' initiative advocating for a parliamentary inquiry into the introduction of the euro. This currency was once intended as the crowning achievement of European integration. But in recent years, the euro has mainly become a bone of contention. Government leaders went from euro summit to euro summit, spending hundreds of billions to prop up Greece, while citizens increasingly turned their backs on Europe. According to both friends and foes, things can't continue like this. But what next? Pro-European politicians advocate for further integration and cooperation. Europe should also become a political union. According to eurosceptics like Baudet, this is a harbinger of even more problems. They advocate for a radically different solution: abolishing the euro and returning to national currencies.
