[RICE 2026 Shenanigans Finalist] [Momocon 2026 VMix Best Vibes] It's.....been a year. With everything going on in the world, I needed something happy in my life. With a week until the RICE 2026 deadline and two unfinished videos (the same two, in fact, that I set aside to make "Yet" for AWA Accolades....), I pivoted to something that would make me smile every time I opened my editing program. Another editor, Seasons, mentioned in a chat that Zoo from Shakira was a great song and deserved a lot of love. I gave it a re-listen, having just seen Zootopia 2 in theaters, and the idea for this AMV hit me like a lightning bolt with the lyrics "concrete jungle life, is sometimes a mad place." This is my first time working with an anime I've never seen before. It was...freeing? I have (in the past) balked at people saying they love working with sources they've never seen. "How could you possibly get the context to apply it to a song?" I would refute, "how can you tell a story or know what a character is like enough to profile them for a music video??" Boy was I wrong. It was A LOT of fun. That's not to say I'd do it all the time, and it's not like I hadn't tangentially seen some of the anime (my 11yo son watched it in the other room, so I would get bits and pieces). But it was a lot of fun just looking for the juiciest scenes, the most fun sync, the goofiest moments, especially for a fun, boppy upbeat that doesn't HAVE a story (or not a fully interconnected one at least). Anyway, I was super proud of this one. RICE gave me A TON of feedback that I think I implemented in full! I really hope y'all like how it came out! And stay positive. The world is too dark to let our own souls be tainted. Find something that makes you happy and cherish it. Hold on to hope.
