Bikepacking into a headwind for 3 days: Ventura, Ojai, and Santa Barbara

Nobody told us to check the wind direction before our first bikepacking trip. This is the story of our first bikepacking trip together - my boyfriend and I took the train from San Luis Obispo to Ventura, riding the Ojai Valley trail from Ventura into Ojai, and up to Refugio State Beach along the Pacific Coast Highway. The route was beautiful, the headwind relentless, and I quickly learned Maps is not to be trusted on bike. We loved almost all of it. We biked with macgyvered bikepacking gear, bungee cords the only thing holding our gear to our frames. Our nights were spent at the Hike & Bike sites at Emma Wood State Beach and Refugio State Beach, where we were treated to a lovely taco dinner by some friendly campers. Day 1: Ventura → Ojai via Ojai Valley Trail & back Day 2: Emma Wood State Beach → Refugio State Beach Day 3: Refugio → Santa Barbara ~132 miles total · ~4,606 ft elevation gain · 2 nights ────────────────────────────── 🎵 MUSIC "End of Summer" — The 126ers (YouTube Audio Library) "Summer Shower" — Quincas Moreira (YouTube Audio Library) "Skinshape x Vegyn - Big Fun Never Ending Nightmare x Summer (Boy Amor Remix) " — Boy Amor | soundcloud.com/boy-amor "For Time to Disappear. - Go By Ocean" — Ryan McCaffrey (YouTube Audio Library)
