Gravity thickeners in water treatment plant sludge !
The gravity thickeners can be an excellent alternative for water treatment plant sludge system. However it is important to consider a constant flow rate at the affluent to gravity thickeners. This video depicts a gravity thickener being fed with a high flow rate where it is possible to observe the instability of sludge column. As a consequence there is a high loss of solids in the effluent. Therefore it is always important to consider an sludge equalization tank located upstream at the gravity thickeners with the purpuse to keep an either low and constant flow rate through the unit.
