Brauchtumsgruppe Wattens - Die verschiedenen Figuren als Ausdruck des Faschingsbrauchtums 2024

"The Wattens traditional costume group is a central part of the traditional carnival and has been helping to keep the region's cultural heritage alive for many years. With its diverse and lovingly crafted characters, it embodies the stories, customs, and humor that make carnival an unforgettable experience. (Video: Reinhard Rovara © 2024) Among the group's most famous characters are the legendary Fasser Rössl (a traditional Bavarian horse), the Old Bavarian Couple, and the Naz (a jester), each playing their own role in the colorful carnival festivities. But the Wattens carnival has many more unique characters to offer. The witches, with their mystical appearances, play their pranks in a humorous and often frightening way. The bears and their handlers are also a central figure, keeping the ancient tradition of "bear driving" alive." ``` The Zaggeler, who wanders through the streets with his characteristic "zaggeln" (a type of tinkling sound), provides entertainment, as does the Klötzler, who makes noises with his "Klötzchen" (small blocks) and captivates the audience. The Melcher, an agricultural figure, symbolizes the hard life of farmers and contributes to the authenticity of the performance. And not to be forgotten is the Spiegeltuxer – a dazzling figure whose mirrored cloak represents a fascinating and enigmatic element of the Fasnacht (Carnival) for many. The Fasser Rössl (Blacksmith's Horse) regularly elicits bursts of laughter from the audience with its turbulent performances, in which the blacksmith and his apprentices try to tame the unruly horse. The Old Bavarian Couple delights with their humorous portrayals of rural life, while the Naz, as the central figure, is symbolically bid farewell at the end of the Fasnacht, accompanied by weeping widows and the mourners. The traditional customs group ensures that not only are old traditions preserved, but also that the community spirit in the village is strengthened. During their performances, they travel from inns and farms to central meeting points to allow as many people as possible to participate in the carnival festivities. A huge thank you goes to all the supporters – the sponsors, the local businesses, the enthusiastic audience, and the numerous volunteers who, through their active participation, make this colorful tradition possible year after year. The Wattens Carnival Association invites you to experience carnival in its most beautiful and vibrant form.
