Horse Rehomed And Now She’s Back

Nikki is a 31-year-old mare who first came to my barn back in 2019. In 2023, her owner abandoned her here, and I stepped in to care for her. About a year later, as I started downsizing my boarding herd, I tried to find her a new situation. Even local rescues wouldn’t take her due to her age, but I was able to place her in what seemed like a great home nearby as a companion horse. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out. The family fell on hard times, the kids lost interest, and they could no longer afford her care—so they asked if I would take her back. So Nikki is back with me now, and this is where she’ll stay for the rest of her days. Rehoming horses isn’t easy—especially when they’re older or free. In my experience, free horses often come back when situations change. It doesn’t always happen, and I don’t always take them back… but in Nikki’s case, I did. #farmlife, #barnlife, #farmchores, #ranchlife, #horseenthusiast, #horselife, #horse, #horsefan, #equestrian, #animals, #horsebackriding
