偶然訪れたら、築城500周年だった。｜苗木城跡【中津川市】

This time, I visited Nakatsugawa City in Gifu Prefecture. After visiting Chikori Village, I had a curry lunch at Denpata, a flower shop and cafe. Apparently, the cafe was created with the desire to support local farmers. Afterward, I headed to the ruins of Naegi Castle, a rare mountain castle built utilizing massive natural rock formations. Naegi Castle was the castle of the Toyama clan, who ruled this area from the Sengoku period. During the Edo period, it was the residence of Japan's smallest castle-owning daimyo, granted permission to possess a castle despite having only 10,000 koku (a unit of land measurement). Coincidentally, a commemorative event for the 500th anniversary of the castle's construction was being held on the day I visited, and I was able to hear an explanation from a guide. Naegi Castle, with its many remaining gates and stone walls, has also been selected as one of the Continued Top 100 Japanese Castles. While hiking and strolling through the mountains, you sometimes encounter such traces of history. Perhaps those who walked here long ago, and I, standing here now, gazed upon the mountains from the same spot and felt similar winds. The only differences are probably the smartphone and the topknot.
