Community Conversation: Ontario's Personal Needs Allowance (October 14, 2025)

A Community Conversation was held to learn about this new report (A Province That Forgot: The Case for transforming Ontario’s Personal Needs Allowance to bring dignity to Residential Care Facility tenants in Hamilton and beyond) and why Ontario's Personal Needs Allowance needs to be replaced with a Human Dignity Allowance. Highlights of the report were presented by author Sara Mayo of SPRC Hamilton. This was followed by a presentation by Kendal David on her report: ODSP Beyond The Basics: Institutional and Boarding Allowances, which looked at Personal Needs Allowance (PNA) and Special Boarder Allowance (SBA). This was followed by discussion and questions.
