Boxing vs Jiu-Jitsu at Dojo Americana BJJ and Self Defense in Vista, CA.

Fights start standing so I wanted to give some of my jiu-jitsu students a taste of trying to get the clinch or takedown against a skilled boxer. The boxer in this video is our boxing instructor, Manny, who was also jiu-jitsu student of mine. As you can see the jiu-jitsu students had no luck getting the fight to the ground. However, don't let this drill lead you to believe that a boxer can avoid being taken down by a jiu-jitsu practitioner. This drill is a bit unfair: For one, our boxing instructor is also a blue belt in jiu-jitsu so he knows what he needs to do to avoid getting taken down by not committing to any power strikes. Secondly, he knows the objective of the jiu-jitsu guys, which makes it easier for him to defend against the clinch as well. However, many jiu-jitsu practitioners are disillusioned with their ground skills and don't realize how difficult it can be to get a fight to the ground, especially when their opponent has skills. This video shows that. You must practice takedowns on a regular basis to be proficient at them. Dojo Americana www.dojoamericana.com 760-717-2170
