This was just supposed to be a quiet morning in Victoria Park, London. I sat near the monument with my handpan, honestly thinking nobody would stop to listen. At first, the park was almost empty. I was nervous even before playing the first note. Then slowly… people started gathering. A couple came and quietly lay down on the grass in front of me. Some children arrived. A few strangers sat behind me in silence. Some started recording. For a moment, it felt like the whole world had become still. But inside me, there was another battle happening. As a child, I was often made to feel like I was not good enough. Compared to others. Belittled. Judged. And sometimes those memories still return when I play music in front of people. You may notice moments where I miss beats or rush the tempo; that was nervousness, fear, and old trauma speaking through me. But something beautiful happened. The sound healing frequencies of the handpan slowly calmed my mind. The meditative music brought me back to the present moment. And instead of fear, I started feeling connection. I think many of us carry this feeling somewhere inside the fear of not being enough, the fear of being seen, the fear of doing what we truly love, because someone once made us doubt ourselves.
