How do you become an ambassador in Switzerland? We accompany aspiring diplomats. In spring 2017, Samira Cizero, Cristina Verones, Jonas Belina, Jean-Baptiste Délèze, and Alexander Schärer began their training at the FDFA, the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. Since then, they have attended various training courses and completed extended internships at the embassies in Cairo, Buenos Aires, Dakar, and Myanmar, as well as at the UN in New York, to acquire the tools they need for diplomacy in the service of Switzerland. The series explores politics and diplomacy, but also the fears and hopes of the very diverse candidates. The first training courses at the FDFA also cover the basics of diplomatic work: etiquette, styling issues, and initial practical assignments in Bern. The series "The Young Diplomats" offers a glimpse behind the scenes of the world of diplomacy. SRF followed the five participants of the so-called "Concours diplomatique" during their two-year training program leading up to their graduation ceremony. The series, in five episodes, shows how the young candidates master the professional and personal challenges they face during their training to become representatives of Switzerland.
