Metre Gauge Steam and Diesel in Burma 2018

In January 2018 FarRail tours organised a visit to Myanmar/Burma to photograph and video the metre-gauge railway system. Steam haulage abruptly finished in April 2008. Some locos were placed into storage. A few have been overhauled and made fit for service. I shot video on this tour using a Nikon SLR and a Panasonic camcorder. The first video is from material using the Nikon. Included in the video: • Vulcan Foundry YD class 2-8-2, built 1949, No.967. • Ex. JR Hokkaido line, Kiha45, DMU built 1980, sent to Burma 2013. • Ex. Indian Railways Alco 6-251D diesel loco built 2008. India has virtually eliminated all meter gauge track so has MG locos surplus to requirements. • LRBE, Light Rail Bus Engine. Locally built rail-bus using a Hino lorry chassis. Due to sanctions it was not possible to import so were constructed in-house from a variety of second-hand items. Because of the flat terrain the steam locos did not work very hard.
