Camaragibe City Hall and Retrô announce construction of a multi-purpose arena for over 12,000 fans Alongside Retrô's president, Laércio Guerra, Mayor Diego Cabral presented the project for the new multi-purpose arena, which will be built with a private investment exceeding R$ 20 million and will have the structure to host games, events, and permanent activities. The mayor of Camaragibe, Diego Cabral, the president of Retrô Futebol Clube, Laércio Guerra, and the architect Jaime Portugal announced, this Wednesday (July 1st), the construction of the club's new multi-purpose arena. The facility will be built on land ceded by the municipality, next to Camará Shopping, between Padre Oséias Cavalcanti and Manoel Honorato da Costa streets, in the central region of the city. With a capacity for over 12,000 fans, the complex is designed to host football matches, events, and permanent activities, such as a gym and restaurant, operating throughout the week. The project was presented during a press conference held at the Retrô Training Center in Aldeia, where the first images and main details of the undertaking were also revealed. For Mayor Diego Cabral, the arena represents a new moment for the economic and urban development of Camaragibe. Diego Cabral revealed that Retrô had negotiated the construction of the facility in another municipality, but decided to remain in the city after discussions with the City Hall. According to him, the project should boost the local economy, strengthen commerce, generate jobs, attract visitors, and increase the visibility of the municipality. "We are investing in a facility that will strengthen sports, boost the local economy, generate opportunities, and put Camaragibe in the spotlight on the sports scene," he stated. The mayor also highlighted the social work developed by the club in partnership with the municipal administration, offering opportunities for children and young people through sports. The project will be entirely financed by private initiative. According to Retrô's president, Laércio Guerra, the investment exceeds R$ 20 million and represents the realization of a long-held dream for the club, which, since turning professional in 2019, has played most of its games at Arena Pernambuco. Construction is expected to begin in August, after the necessary approvals are obtained, with a completion time of eight to ten months. The expectation is that Retrô will begin playing in the new arena throughout 2027. Explaining the municipality's participation, Mayor Diego Cabral emphasized that no public funds will be used in the construction of the facility. The City Hall's contribution is limited to the cession of the land, unanimously approved by the City Council, in addition to technical and institutional support to make the project viable. He also informed that a special commission will be created, with representatives from the Executive, Legislative, and security agencies, to monitor all stages of the project, especially aspects related to mobility, infrastructure, and the organization of the arena's surroundings. The project details were presented by architect Jaime Portugal, who explained that the arena was designed to function throughout the week, not just on game days. The main building will house a gym open to the public, with a double-height ceiling, and a restaurant with panoramic views of the pitch. The complex will also include VIP boxes, VIP areas, a museum dedicated to the history of Retrô, a press room, an Operational Command and Control Center (CCO), locker rooms inspired by modern arenas, medical care areas, and fully accessible spaces. The stands will be U-shaped, with all fans seated, in addition to separate access for fans, athletes, press, and service teams. According to Jaime Portugal, the challenge was to transform an unused area into a facility capable of accommodating more than 12,000 people, bringing together solutions in architecture, mobility, infrastructure, and security. Inspired by international references, the project was conceived to maintain a modern and timeless architectural standard. To meet the projected schedule, the architect explained that a construction system using prefabricated structures will be employed, reducing construction time. The main facade will feature ACM cladding, large glass panels, LED lighting, and video screens, creating a unique visual identity among Pernambuco stadiums. Jaime Portugal added that the entire project was developed in conjunction with mobility specialists, the Fire Department, the Military Police, and other involved agencies to ensure safety and organization of vehicle, public transport, and pedestrian traffic during games and events. In addition to its architectural features, Laércio Guerra highlighted that the arena was planned to function as an entertainment center.
