One can live 3 days without water and 3 weeks without food. But in an emergency situation you must first have a good shelter in place to protect you from the elements like weather and insects. In an urban environment, there are more man-made structures that you can leverage for shelter such as buildings, overpasses, doorways and walls. However, it is still generally accepted that you will want to shelter outside of an urban environment as much as possible during a true survival situation to avoid crowds of people. Shelter items generally consist of one of the three categories: 1. What you sleep UNDER: Tent, Tarp 2. What you sleep IN: Sleeping Bag, Bivvy, Blanket 3. What you sleep ON: Sleeping Pad, Pillow The following items make up the supplies included in the Shelter Module for my Urban Bug Out Bag (version 3.0). The intent is to keep weight light and storage space as small as possible, while still offering adequate capabilities for shelter warmth and quick deployment.
