Joseph Vijay has announced a unique welfare initiative titled the 'Thai Maman Gold Ring Scheme' for newborns. Blending traditional culture with modern social welfare, the Tamil Nadu government has rolled out the "Thaaimaaman Thanga Mothira Thittam." Under this unique scheme, the state government will act as the symbolic 'Maternal Uncle' (Mama) to every newborn baby delivered in government hospitals across the state, gifting them a 1-gram pure gold ring. The state government has allocated a massive annual budget of ₹755.83 crore to fund this mega program, and CM Vijay has directed officials to fast-track the tender and procurement processes immediately. This scheme is deeply rooted in the ancient Tamil custom of "Thai Maman Seer," where the maternal uncle blesses a newborn with gold. While the official rollout is scheduled for September 15, the benefits will apply retrospectively to all infants born in government hospitals from June 22 onwards, which marks Chief Minister Vijay's birthday.
