Deep Purple is a British rock band that was formed in London in 1967. They are considered pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock. The band's musical approach has evolved over the years, shifting from a psychedelic and progressive rock sound to a heavier sound with their 1970 album "Deep Purple in Rock. Deep Purple, along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, have been referred to as the "unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal in the early to mid-seventies.They were listed in the 1975 Guinness Book of World Records as "the globe's loudest band" for a 1972 concert at London's Rainbow Theatre.They have sold over 100 million albums worldwide. The band has gone through several line-up changes and was broken up for eight years from 1976 to 1984[^10^]. The drummer Ian Paice is the band's only constant member. The band's original 1968–1976 run is officially indicated as Mark I (1968–1969), Mark II (1969–1973), Mark III (1973–1975), and Mark IV (1975–1976)[^10^]. The most commercially successful line-up was Mark II, with Ian Gillan and Roger Glover replacing the original vocalist Rod Evans and bassist Nick Simper respectively. Deep Purple has released 22 studio albums, 43 live albums, and 55 singles². Some of their most popular albums include "Deep Purple in Rock", "Fireball", "Machine Head", "Who Do We Think We Are", and their latest album "Whoosh!" released in 2020.
