African World Music for Peace, Hope & Healing | ROHO | Voices of Humanity
ROHO (Spirit) | Voices of Humanity *ROHO* means *"Spirit"* in Swahili. This album took longer to create than any music I've ever made. Not because of the music itself, but because every lyric was rewritten again and again until it reflected the people and experiences that inspired it. These songs were born from memories gathered while living among indigenous and remote communities around the world. Many of these people had very little by material standards, yet I was continually humbled by their generosity, resilience, joy, and kindness. When I first began traveling, I believed I had something important to offer the world. Instead... The world became my teacher. More than once while writing this album, I found myself stopping simply to sit with the memories behind these songs. The lyrics are sung primarily in Swahili, with carefully chosen English phrases woven throughout—not to translate every word, but to reveal the heart of each song. My hope isn't simply that you relax while listening. It's that, for a little while, you remember what connects us. No matter where we come from... No matter what language we speak... *The human spirit rises again.* --- Track List 00:00 KARIBU (Welcome) 03:49 ROHO (Spirit) 09:01 MIZIZI (Roots) 14:19 MWALIMU (Teacher) 19:20 SAFARI (Journey) 23:27 MOYO (Heart) 28:34 HURUMA (Compassion) 33:26 UWEPO (Presence) 39:03 IMANI (Faith) 44:07 RAFIKI (Friend) The Stories Behind the Songs *KARIBU (Welcome)* An invitation to remember that every human being belongs. *ROHO (Spirit)* Inspired by ordinary people who forever changed the way I see humanity. *MIZIZI (Roots)* None of us stand alone. We all grow from the lives that came before us. *MWALIMU (Teacher)* Every person we meet leaves us with something worth carrying forward. *SAFARI (Journey)* Every step, every joy, and every hardship becomes part of who we are. *MOYO (Heart)* Beneath every language, culture, and border beats the same human heart. *HURUMA (Compassion)* Compassion begins when the heart truly sees another person. *UWEPO (Presence)* Life has been here all along. We only have to notice it. *IMANI (Faith)* After everything I've witnessed, I still choose to believe in humanity. *RAFIKI (Friend)* No one was meant to walk this journey alone. --- If one of these songs speaks to you, I'd love to hear which one. And if you'd like to know what any of the lyrics mean, let me know in the comments. I'd be happy to share the English translation. Thank you for listening... and thank you to every person whose kindness helped shape these songs.
