Community, I'm sharing a video about a group of young Argentinians highlighting the purchasing power of Chileans, based on the number of cars in a parking lot. Chile is considered one of the countries closest to "first world" or developed status in Latin America, and in many indicators, it already ranks as an advanced economy. According to the World Bank (data updated to 2025), Chile is a high-income economy, with a GNI per capita above the required threshold (US$13,935). This places it in the same group as many developed countries. In the UN Human Development Report (data 2023-2025), Chile has an HDI of around 0.86-0.878, classified as very high (very high human development, 0.8). It ranks between 44th and 45th globally, leading by a wide margin in Latin America. This measures not only income, but also life expectancy (high, approximately 80 years), education (high coverage), and quality of life. Since 2010, Chile has been the first (and so far only) South American country in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), a "club" of mostly developed countries (such as the US, Germany, Japan, etc.). This recognition acknowledges its stable economic policies, strong institutions, and high standards of governance. GDP per capita (PPP, purchasing power parity): Around US$30,000-31,000 in 2024-2025 (IMF and World Bank projections), the highest or second highest in the region (behind Uruguay or Panama in some years). It leads Latin America in: competitiveness, economic freedom, low perceived corruption (according to indices such as the Heritage Foundation and Transparency International), globalization, and trade integration (numerous free trade agreements).
