In this Technicolor short (about 7 minutes), Jerry rescues Spike the Bulldog from a dogcatcher’s van. Grateful, Spike promises to protect him whenever he whistles. Tom quickly realizes this new threat and spends the cartoon frantically trying to stop Jerry from whistling—only for each summon to land him a blow from Spike’s powerful paws. Highlights include Tom’s clever traps (glue-coated gumballs, lead pipes) and explosive gag payoffs. One standout is when Jerry inflates a giant bubble to incapacitate Tom—then whistles triumphantly, sending Tom digging his own grave out of fear.
