This is 72 hours at Yeosu Romantic Pojangmacha. ■ Romantic Pojangmacha Embracing the Yeosu Sea With Busker Busker's song "Yeosu Night Sea" gaining popularity, Yeosu has become a hot spot in Korea, beloved by people of all ages. Many have expressed concerns about the lack of entertainment in Yeosu's downtown area, despite the influx of tourists. However, on May 4, 2016, the Romantic Pojangmacha Street was opened in Jongpo Marine Park, filling this void. Located with a panoramic view of Dolsandaegyo Bridge at night, the 17 romantic pochas offer a variety of dishes, from regional seasonal specialties to a variety of seafood, captivating both tourists and locals. Even today, as the cold winter arrives, countless people flock to Yeosu's romantic pochas to enjoy a glass of soju by the beautiful Yeosu night sea. ■ People Visiting Romantic Pochas at the End of 2016 As 2016 draws to a close, countless people flocked to Yeosu's romantic pocha street. 2016 was a tumultuous and challenging year, but people find themselves reliving the joys and sorrows of the year at these romantic pochas. With each stall offering unique side dishes like kkeomeokdwaeji samhap (Korean pork belly stew) and jjukkumi seafood samhap (Korean octopus and seafood stew), the long winter nights feel fleeting. As you walk along the Yeosu coastline in front of Romantic Pocha, gazing at the nighttime views of Dolsan Bridge and Geobukseon Bridge, and the lights reflecting off the sea, the romance of Yeosu fills you. ■ New Life, New Place. The Merchants of Romantic Pocha What sets Yeosu Romantic Pocha apart from other food stalls is that only 17 stalls, selected by the city of Yeosu, operate here. These 17 stall owners, selected through a rigorous screening process, represent a diverse range of citizens, including young people, ordinary citizens, local residents, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Because the selection process was so competitive, with a 10-to-1 ratio, management is also rigorous. A dedicated team from the city monitors cleanliness, customer service, and other aspects of the stalls. If complaints accumulate, vendors face expulsion, and thus, the vendors are constantly striving to improve for the customers who frequent Romantic Pocha. Owner Jang Mi-young, who runs Pocha No. 10, always greets customers with a bright smile. ■ 2017: Romantic Pocha's Dream The people currently running Romantic Pocha are ordinary citizens with diverse careers. Their stories are diverse, as they were selected from various backgrounds, including young people, ordinary citizens, local residents, and the socially disadvantaged. These people say that running a food stall has changed many aspects of their lives.
