PARIS ANGELS (John Peel Session 1990)

Actually it's only a partial session. Paris Angels were originally a seven piece band, hailing from Guide Bridge, Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, associated with the Madchester scene of 1989 -1991. Their music fused indie guitars with electronic dance music. The band comprised Paul 'Wags' Wagstaff (Guitar - Later of Black Grape and the reformed Happy Mondays), Rikki Turner (Vocals), Steven Taji (Keyboards), Scott Carey (Bass), Mark Adj (Guitar), Jane Gill (Vocals) and the late Simon Worrall (Drums – R.I.P. 2011). The band were active from 1990 to 1992 and released one album. Following Worrall's death the other six members reformed in 2013 and several tracks from the long lost 2nd album 'Eclipse' have been released as download singles. They recorded one John Peel Session on 26th August 1990 which was first transmitted on 27th September 1990. The recording of that show is lost. The session was repeated on 2nd December 1990 which is where this recording is taken from. Unfortunately the 3rd hour of the show is also a lost recording so one of the three tracks is missing. The surviving tracks are 'Stay' and 'Scope'. 'Stay' appeared on the various artists compilation, Home', in 1990 and the Peel version appeared on the 'New Season – The Peel Sessions' compilation in 1991. 'Scope' was released as a single in 1990 but the Peel version remains unreleased.. The 3rd track, 'Smile', appeared on thier one and only album, 'Sundew', in 1991 but, again, the Peel version remains unreleased. The session tracks were produced by Dale Griffin and engineered by Miti Adhikari and Fred Kay. The session was recorded at BBC Maida Vale (Studio 3).
