Sandy casts a pellet first, then Luna casts a pellet. A pellet is undigested material such as feathers, fur, claws and occasionally bones that is regurgitated back up and expelled. It is formed in the stomach/gizzard and is covered with mucus. They usually are formed overnight after a meal and expelled the following morning. The pellet travels up from the gizzard back to the proventriculus and remains there until it is regurgitated up. You can always tell when a raptor is about to cast a pellet - it will sometimes have a uncomfortable expression. They will shake their head from side to side to try & expel it. At the moment of expulsion, the neck is stretched up and forward, the beak is opened, and the pellet comes out. Sometimes the eaglet has to toss its head back and forth to eject it. After the pellet is cast, the eaglet feels much better and resumes their normal activity. Sandy wants to come to the nest and she successfully jumps back to the nest (she veered to the side past Luna). Both Sandy & Luna will do wingers - Luna gets quite vigorous with his wingers. Then they both head back to the Front Porch - in the same position as before - Sandy on the outside and Luna on the inside. A couple hours later, Sandy wants to come back to the nest. She is triangulating her neck judging the distance to get there -but Luna is in the way and was not moving. Sandy makes the decision to jump over Luna and ends up crashing into Luna & the nest. Luna ducks as Sandy's wings cover him - good thing Luna's talons kept him on the front porch - avoiding an accidental fludge! In regular time and slomo. Afterwards, Sandy heads to the back porch to do wingers, Luna joins on the right of Sandy. They end up having a sibling spat and give beakies to one another. Sandy will nibble the cam and do selfies - Luna will watch with those cute head tilts! All is forgiven! Thank you for watching!
