The State of Music Sharing

Originally Aired September 9, 2021 Private audio sharing platform, Byta, in partnership with researcher Dr. John Sullivan (Ph.D. Music Technology, McGill University, Canada) and music journalist Shawn Reynaldo (First Floor, Pitchfork, Resident Advisor, SPIN), are releasing an in-depth study into the current challenges relating to the sharing of pre-release digital audio throughout the music ecosystem. Working with digital audio files and streams is essential for everyone across the music ecosystem. With over 60,000 new tracks being uploaded to streaming services every day, how is music shared before it is live to stream and available to buy in record stores? Join Byta’s founder and CEO Marc Brown as he presents some initial findings from a survey distributed by Music Biz as well as many international music associations. Using data collected from one on one qualitative interviews, Marc also presents frustrations and possible solutions when working with and attempting to protect your music, pre- and post-release.
