The Black Eagles, the Republic of Korea Air Force's aerobatic team, are granted the distinction of withstanding a gravitational force eight times their own body weight for over 20 seconds! The Black Eagles, who captured the attention of the world, embarked on an 80-day journey from the Republic of Korea Air Force, which began without a single combat aircraft, to participating in an international air show for the first time since its founding. ■ Participation in the First International Air Show Since its Founding International air shows are held in 21 countries around the world, including France and the UK! International air shows are often called silent wars between nations, where advanced nations showcase their air force prowess and cutting-edge aviation technology. For a long time, international air shows were reserved for advanced nations, but now the Republic of Korea's Black Eagles have made their debut. They participated in the world's largest military air show, the London Airshow at Ryat and Waddington, flying the T-50B, a supersonic aircraft developed with Korean technology. On June 30, 2012, the Black Eagles opened a new chapter in the history of the Republic of Korea Air Force. ■ The Largest Aircraft Transport Operation on Earth To participate in the first international air show since the founding of the Korean People's Army, the first task awaited them was the safe transport of aircraft to England. Dismantling, packaging, and transporting nine aircraft weighing nearly 7 tons resembled a large-scale military operation. The large-scale transport operation, which began in May, involved approximately 50 specialists and took approximately 40 days. Hours of sweat and effort flowed behind the scenes until our aircraft and pilots could soar over the British skies. ■ Extreme Moments Filmed Inside the Cockpit The Black Eagles' cockpit, reserved for only the most elite pilots, is a privilege. The flight is so demanding that even a blink of the eye is impossible, and the pilots push the limits of human endurance dozens of times a day. The Black Eagles' motto is "teamwork!" In this special flight, where even a 0.5-second error can put not only their own lives but also those of their comrades at risk, teamwork is more important than skill. Even for the Black Eagle pilots, who have honed their skills and teamwork, participating in this international air show was a daunting challenge. The UK's flight regulations and even its terminology differed slightly from those of Korea. Even the unpredictable British weather was unpredictable. Extreme footage shot from inside the cockpit conveys the thrill of the air show to your living room. ■ Black Eagle Becomes the World's Best On July 7, 2012, the Korean national anthem, Arirang, filled the Riat International Air Show venue, and the blue Taegeuk pattern vividly painted across the British sky. The audience erupted in applause and flashlights. The Black Eagles won the Grand Prize and Popularity Awards at the RIAT Air Show, the world's largest military air show with 42 participating countries! At the Waddington Air Show, with 12 participating countries, they won first place in the Display category, beating out the Red Arrows, the UK's world-class team! Our aircraft and pilots soared proudly into the international air show, once reserved for advanced nations, capturing the attention of the world.
