What Kind of Language Learning Keeps Your Brain Young?
In this video I discuss three types of language learning: Type 1 (exploratory, new growth, height), Type 2 (mastery, depth), and Type 3 (breadth, perspective, polyglottery). All are valuable in their own right, but I believe only Type 1 actively contributes to keeping your brain young, so polyglots and scholars should supplement their languages with other forms of growth so as to remain "young" and well-rounded. I come to these reflections after the first week of my virtual academy when thanking and thinking about the wonderfully multi-faceted group of people who signed up to do this with me. And of course I also talk about Great Books! If would like to participate via Zoom in my virtual reading and discussion circles for French, German, Spanish, or Latin literature, or in seminars for discussing Great Books, please fill out the application at https://www.alexanderarguelles.com/ac... If you can think of anyone else who might be interested in joining these discussion circles, or who might like support for the self-study of foreign languages, please pass the above information along to them. If you are particularly interested in Great Books education, please also have a look at https://onlinegreatbooks.com/ If you might prefer to do this the way they do it, you can register with my name, ALEXANDER, as a promo code and get a substantial discount for your first three months. If you are in a position to support my efforts to spread knowledge through these videos, I will gratefully accept any contributions to https://ko-fi.com/alexanderarguelles
