Japan's main artery, connecting Tokyo and Osaka over a distance of 550 kilometers, the Tokaido Shinkansen carries 168 million passengers annually. We take a peek at the hidden side of the "purser," a job that supports unparalleled safety and comfort. (Anchorman Oishi) "We've arrived at Shin-Osaka Station. The Shinkansen is changing with the times. The pursers who support this service are right here at Shin-Osaka Station. We're going undercover." The western gateway to the Tokaido Shinkansen. Shin-Osaka Station is a massive terminal used by 80,000 people daily. In a corner of the station, behind this door, lies "the stage." Our guide will be Saki Yoshinaga. The "purser," a crew member who thoroughly patrols the train and responds to passengers' concerns. Yoshinaga is a nine-year veteran. Where is this...? (Anchorman Oishi) "It's a place you don't often get to visit, is it?" (Flight attendant Saki Yunaga) "This area is like a secret base, so only flight attendants are allowed in." This is the flight attendant base, a place you'd never normally see. A variety of things are prepared here for flight attendants, who are strict about their appearance. We were also shown the rooms for flight attendants who handle the first and last trains. Flight attendants' bases are located at Tokyo Station and Shin-Osaka Station, where they check baggage before departure and after arrival, and share information about passengers who need assistance. Meanwhile, here is first-year employee Moeka Yuzuki. She originally wanted to become a flight attendant because she admired "that job." (Yuki Moeka, first-year employee) "I love customer service, and I wanted to work in a cart." (Oishi Anchorman) "The timing was bad." (Yuki Moeka) "That's right." Last year, the Tokaido Shinkansen ended its in-car cart sales service after 60 years. The incredibly hard "Sugoikatai Ice Cream," popular for its incredibly firm texture, has been moved from the cart to the station platform. We also sneaked into a train attendant training center. Oishi Anchorman was given the special opportunity to wear a train attendant uniform and experience the work of an apprentice train attendant, delivering coffee to the Green Car! And what's more... (Onji Anna, instructor) "I hope you'll experience it on board the swaying train." We arrived at the platform at Shin-Osaka Station.
