Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of the SPLM Women's League chairpersons at the Payam level and the Women's League Executive of the Juba County Secretariat, George Pitia Stephen, Chairperson of SPLM Juba County, said there is peace in South Sudan under SPLM, despite disturbances caused by some armed groups. He said some armed groups resort to taking up arms as elections approach because they lack confidence to attain leadership positions by the will of the people. According to him, they prefer that the country remain under a transitional government rather than proceed with elections. George Pitia said a transitional government cannot adequately deliver services to the people. He stressed that the government that delivers services to the people is an elected government, where citizens freely go out and vote, adding that, to have such a competent government in place, the people of South Sudan must go to the polls in December 2026.
