Wright testifies before House panel on Energy budget, priorities

Energy Secretary Chris Wright will face questions from the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology on Wednesday morning about President Trump’s fiscal 2027 budget request and priorities for the department. The hearing also comes as tensions with Iran and in the Strait of Hormuz continue to escalate. The effective closure of the waterway, a key transporter of the global oil supply, has caused gas and energy costs to soar. Wright in recent days has sought to ease fears that prices will skyrocket more, though most Americans in recent polling say they believe the opposite. The White House budget requests $53.9 billion in discretionary budget authority for the Energy Department, a nearly 10 percent increase from 2026.
