Vegetable Farming in Zambia: Cucumber Crop 2022: Update 2: Direct Sown, Grown, and Now Trellising.

We return to the cucumber crop to share the next ten weeks in its life. This video picks up the story just after land preps were completed and describes how we chose to direct sow the seeds instead of first nursing and then transplanting. Later, we had issues of poor germination and crop establishment and ended up having to inter-transplant plants into 2 out of the 3 beds originally planted. After testing our soil, we had to apply lime helped the situation after we realised how acidic the field was. Much of the video is focused on why and how we set up a trellising system for our cucumber, and it ends with the crop in a healthy vegetative stage with the first signs of flowers just starting to be seen.
