NGOCC CONDEMNS POLITICAL ATTACKS INVOLVING GARY NKOMBO’S ELDERLY MOTHER The Non-governmental Gender Organisations' Coordinating Council, NGOCC, has called on political parties and their leaders to maintain civility and focus on issue-based campaigns ahead of the 13th August General Election. In a statement, NGOCC expressed concern over remarks attributed to President Hakainde Hichilema during campaign rallies in Mazabuka, which it says appeared to involve the elderly mother of Mazabuka Central aspiring candidate Gary Nkombo in political attacks. NGOCC Board Chairperson Beauty Katebe said political leaders should challenge each other based on policies, records and conduct, rather than targeting family members who are not part of the political contest. Ms. Katebe described the involvement of women relatives in political attacks as a form of gendered political violence, warning that such actions expose them to ridicule, abuse and possible safety risks. NGOCC has urged all candidates to focus their campaigns on issues affecting citizens, including jobs, the cost of living, agriculture, healthcare, education and national development. #nchemoyinu
