The Obersalzberg near Berchtesgaden was one of the most important centers of power of the Nazi regime during World War II. Around Adolf Hitler’s Berghof, the Kehlsteinhaus, and other facilities, a vast network of buildings, bunkers, air-raid shelters, and infrastructure was constructed for the political leadership of the Third Reich. To this day, numerous relics from that time remain hidden around the Obersalzberg – including bunkers, splinter protection structures, workers’ camps, and supply installations deep within the forests above Berchtesgaden. In this video, we explore several of these nearly forgotten locations around the Berghof and the Obersalzberg. These include the remains of former workers’ camps, splinter protection structures of the Moll type, air-raid bunkers, supply systems, and other traces of infrastructure from the World War II era. Many of these places are barely known today and lie hidden in the forests surrounding the historic Obersalzberg area. They tell the story of the massive construction efforts that took place here in the 1930s and 1940s around Hitler’s Berghof.
