Nuestra basura: el camino a un consumo responsable | Edelmira Altube | TEDxMarDelPlata
Argentinians generate half a ton of waste per second. Forty-five million kilos of garbage per day. This data only shows the visible part of a larger problem related to a linear economic system that primarily promotes disposable products. Faced with this alarming situation, what can each of us do? Edelmira Altube, an indefatigable and nature-loving person, defines herself as a “responsible consumer” who hasn't taken out the trash since January 2018. In this article, she shows us alternatives that foster habits that will radically change our consumption behavior. According to her, “everything is used and almost nothing is wasted.” Originally from Mar del Plata, I currently live in Miramar with my partner. I am a full-time yoga teacher, giving classes in both cities. A year ago, I decided to align myself with the global “Zero Waste” movement, where ordinary people take concrete actions to reduce their generation of garbage, waste, and refuse. Today, I'm taking this a step further, trying to see what other actions I can take to make my daily life as sustainable as possible. In other words, I want to ensure that meeting my basic needs today doesn't prevent other people, whether present or future, from meeting theirs. In March of this year, I participated in the second edition of the Circular Academy in Santiago, Chile. This was a scholarship program for training as a "Sustainable Change Agent," which I applied for and was selected along with 25 other participants from various parts of Chile and Latin America. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
