The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) revealed that the Regent of Langkat, Syah Afandin, also known as Ondim, was suspected of having knowledge of the planned sting operation (OTT) against him. This information was conveyed by the Acting Director of Investigations at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein. According to the KPK, the case began when Syah Afandin requested the remaining fees from several projects at the Langkat Regency Education and Housing Offices, which were being carried out by a private party named Yaqub Abdhal Al Mu'arif. Yaqub was also known to be a member of Syah's campaign team during the 2024 regional elections. The KPK explained that Syah and Yaqub had previously agreed to a project fee totaling Rp 1.2 billion.
